I went in today for an oil change and tire rotation, nothing else. Where to begin with this trainwreck. First off, it took 45 minutes to get it done. The pricing was horrible. They charged me over $87 for it all. They put in synthetic and that alone ran me $45 "Labor" for the tire rotation cost me another 20, and they charged me 5 for windshield fluid which i didnt ask for. Ive never once paid more than 40 dollars for an oil change and roation and i refuse to ever go to Swetts agin. Stay away and save your money. Cheap little mom n' pop shop that rips you off.
If they break something while fixing your car, they'll cover it up with glue that doesn't hold and not tell you.
I went in to get an inspection sticker and knew that my car would need a little bit of repair. They told me i'd need over $750 dollars in repair and tried to convince me that I needed new tires, when I had the reciept from the old ones that were bought less than 20K miles ago. They also tried telling me that exhaust pipes only came in pieces and that I'd need a new muffler just because of the new exhaust. I went to a different repair shop that same day and they said my tires were fine and that I could have an inspection sticker with a repair to my exhaust and fix another noise my car had been making for less than half the price! If you are a young college kid that doesn't know much about cars DONT GO HERE! They will try to rip you out of as much money as they can get out of you just for their own profit!
Scammers. I used to go there all the time for inspections and they were great. Then, three or four years ago, I took my truck in there and like the other reviewers have said... got treated like dirt. The mechanic acted like my older model truck was total junk. He said I needed new tires, new shocks, and new ball joints. I brought the truck home and tightened the frt bearings and put two new shocks on for $35 and went to another place and got inspected no problem. I even asked the new inspection station if the front was all tight and they double checked it and said no problem. I bet Swetts was thinking of make $600/$700 off me. Definitely just another local garage and/or towing company around here trying used to fleecing college students. Don't go to any of the local car parts, garages, or tow businesses in the local Old Town area without being on gaurd... they are used to trying to get away with what they can.
I have two vehicles and I both bring them to Swett's Tire and Auto in Orono. Bruce and his staff give professional service and actually explain in great detail what is going on with the vehicles. Honest people who do great work. Even thought they are busy all the time, they still make the repairs happen fast and get us back on the road!
